###### Did you know...?

There is a quick way to work out if a number is divisible by 11:

Add together alternate digits and then find the difference. If the difference between the two numbers is a multiple of 11, then the original number is a multiple of 11

Let's try it: is 2,728 divisible by 11?

1. Start with the first number

Add alternate digits 2,728

2 + 2 = 4

2. Start with the second number

Add alternate digits 2,728

7 + 8 = 15

The difference between 15 and 4 is 11.

This number IS divisible by 11 (in fact, 11 x 248 = 2,728)

Let's try again, with a smaller number.

Is 429 divisible by 11?

4 + 9 = 13

2 - this one is on its own.

Find the difference: 13- 2 = 11

429 IS divisible by 11 (11 x 39 = 429)

And a larger number...

Is 63,976 divisible by 11?

6 + 9 + 6 = 21

3 + 7 = 10

Find the difference: 21- 10 = 11

63,976 IS divisible by 11 (11 x 5,816 = 63,976)
